It’s been a great end of the semester. I finished my portfolio, secured an internship, and have some free time to myself.
I ended my Junior year at SVA pretty well. I did my portfolio, designed and printed at home, and have put that aside. I got a 4.3 out of 5.0 on my portfolio, which isn’t bad at all. It happened again where I’m 0.1 away from the next evaluation up. My 4.3 means “High Level of Achievement” where a 4.4 would’ve meant “Top Percentile.” Oh well! I did better than last year. I also got all of my grades back and I’ll be on the Dean’s List again. Grades don’t matter as much in art school but I think it’s just the high achiever in me to make sure I’m on the Dean’s List. Old high school habits are hard to break.
I’ve started my internship at a design firm in Manhattan. I work there three days a week. I’m really excited that this isn’t one of those internships where I’m someone’s gopher. I’m actually doing design work. I’ll be starting a food packaging project next week. I’ve also been offered several other internships. I’m glad that my work is well received. I’ve just got to update my Behance profile with more of my latest work.
Now, David Bowie. My dad spoke today at the Red Bull Music Academy’s Classic Album Sunday’s: A David Bowie Special. My dad, Ken Scott, and Nile Rodgers spoke about a select Bowie record they each worked on. I arrived for my dad’s session and it was awesome. It was a very nice venue for the place but a little small. There were a ton of people who couldn’t make it because of the sold out tickets. My dad had a great time speaking and telling stories of his time working on the album Heroes. It was really interesting to be in a room full of people who have a great appreciation for music on that level. Afterwards, my dad, brother, and I decided to leave and get coffee but we ran into Nile Rodgers downstairs who was about to come up to talk. My dad introduced us and when Nile shook my hand, he came in for a hug. Ha ha ha! He seems really cool and down to Earth. I definitely had a great time.
That’s basically been my life so far. I’ll be going back to my cosplay stuff again soon. I’m just enjoying these days I have free now. :)
I’ve been photographing and editing my work for my portfolio for the past weekend. It’s been reeeeally difficult and time consuming. This time next week, I’ll have a finished (or almost finished) portfolio for my Junior year. It’s freaking me out a bit.
Here are just a few of the things I’ve been working on. I have somewhere between 12-14 pieces total.
First draft of this piece I’m bringing in tomorrow. Not entirely sure how I feel about it. I already see a few things I definitely want to fix already. I wish I didn’t have to include the watering can… I’m doing a series that will all be inspired by vintage seed packets.
I wish there were more hours in a day. I’m nowhere near done with this… and I have two more of these to do. Although I’m definitely having fun putting that swashes on the type. I’ve got some tweaking to do.
I’m making a series of three posters that have to do with my feelings about this school year and relate it to some images we were provided. This was HARD to figure out.
